THE ARTIFACT

The Spermeste Outbreak was an incident that happened roughly 14 million years ago and is a prime example as to Why individuals must wait to see if a species is sexually compatible with theirs before intercourse. The outbreak occurred a year after humans had made physical contact with the malbeans. As usual a few relationships between humans and malbeans formed, these were allowed however sexual intercourse was not due to testing still going on about compatibility. One induvial did not listen however and so had sex with his malbean partner, this would cause an infection that wiped out more than half of the malbean population. Malbean body cells emit chemical signals that are very similar to the ones that humans egg cells emit to guide sperm; the human sperm treated these body cells as if they were human egg cells and imbedded its self in the body cell and injecting its genetic code; malbean cells naturally replicate any genetic code injected into them as the immune system utilizes various viruses for defense. Additionally sometimes body cells would undergo mitosis when infected by sperm causing cancerous lumps to form on the body. The malbeans use chemicals and pheromones to communicate, the pheromone sac would be one of the first places infected and so individuals would release the virus when releasing pheromones. As the sperm replicated it mutated many times becoming more like an actual virus; most variations stayed compatible with humans with the offspring having mild abnormalities. Organ failure was the main cause of death for the infected.

3.5 billion died before the cure was made and distributed; the administration of the vaccine was carried out by the first version of the Med drones. The man responsible for the infection was quickly captured and imprisoned after the cure was made. He was handed over to the malbeans and humans would assist in any punishment they came up with. In the end he was forcibly modified into a living pharmacy, able to produce any pathogen and medicine when needed. He lived out the rest of his days alone, painfully forced to serve for a species he almost doomed, all he did willingly. This incident caused the malbeans to have a hesitance towards intercourse of any kind and a phobia of humans despite them joining their nation not to long after. The malbeans later went extinct due to infertility caused by poor diets.
