Log 15

Log 15, Body scavengers. During the exploration Georg noticed that we were being followed. The bot also picked up on this which meant that whatever it was is either big or hungry. It turned out to be a group of small scavengers. I was able to do a good study despite them being so skittish. These scavengers mainly eat the corpses of the many aviary carcasses littered throughout the plateau. For that, I will call them body scavengers. Despite the abundance of food, they are quite small. They tend to travel in packs presumably for protection. One thing of note though is that the blood of the body scavengers is highly poisonous. It seems that the bacteria and bits of mold on the food they eat has not only led to strong immunity, but to potent toxins as well. I can tell that these must be relatives of Lizassins, one kept the toxins in the blood while the other put it in specialized glands. The poison in the body scavenger’s blood is also what keeps it warm. The various toxins consumed react with the body’s blood which generates some heat. While there are no predators apparent I still find the skittish nature of the body snatchers interesting. If there is no predator, why are they scared?
