THE ARTIFACT

The sentile gravitas are a mysterious species. Living on the outer edge of a black hole the origin of this race is a mixture of perfectly lined up events. The first is that the core of the black hole isn't centered and rotates within its own gravity, it is believed this was caused by another black hole passing by and throwing off its gravity. This rotating core causes the black hole to not only fluctuate in speed but also spit out bits of condensed matter stored within the black hole, this condensed matter will then form into a sentile gravitas. The reason for their sentience comes from their black hole being at an intersection of various signals and radio waves; the signals get sucked into the black hole and are compacted into the singularity within, the bits of condensed matter spat out are filled these radio waves constantly bouncing around and warping, this jumble of signals causes the sentile gravitas to be sentient. Biologically there isn't much, sentile gravitas are living singularities that can manipulate their gravity to change forms. When formed they have little control and can only stretch out limbs, as they age they slowly get better at controlling their gravity and will be able to take on which ever form they please. The most common form they take is that of a humanoid one, this is due to humanity being held in high regard throughout the galaxy as well as humans being one of the only species that can directly interact with them. sentile gravitas live very simple lives, some will just sit out side the black hole while others will spin in the outer edges of it, they quite enjoy their basic lives and have no urge to explore outside their home. With no basic things needed for survival they didn't see a need to explore outside their home; and since they live in a black hole most spaceships couldn't reach them, it wasn't until during humanity's black hole craze that they were discovered. They don't exactly die either, when an individual gets to a certain age they'll collapse in on themselves and revert into a newly formed Gravitas in a few days. Few individuals have left their home to explore the galaxy, because of their rarity and how valuable studying this species was for humanity's black hole technology strong, laws akin to that of owning an exotic animal were put in place by humans to prevent a sentile gravitas from being exploited the wrong hands.
