Log 1, Gem Crackers. The edge of the desert sure gets a lot of sun, large mineral deposits are also abundant here. Quartz-like gemstones are very frequent, I suspect this area was an underground cavern that caved in on itself. Life here seems to have built itself around these crystals, many creatures eat or incorporate the minerals into their anatomy. The most abundant ones I’ve seen are what I call Gem Crackers, small scavengers that break down rocks and other gemstones. Despite their size they contain a biteforce of 30,000 newtons, allowing them to break through the various ore deposits easily. The reason they eat these crystals is to aid in digestion, bones make up their primary diet and the quartz acts as a rock tumbler within their stomachs and slowly breaks down the bones until it's mostly marrow, once done they leave deifications of shiny crystals and smooth bone. The “eyes” of the Gem Cracker are like ones seen on the Basket Shark, folds react to light levels and send signals in response, however the eyes of a Gem Cracker are remarkably weaker and can only detect much higher light levels, this leads me to think that they're descended from cave creatures that adapted to the bright desert once the cave collapsed. Bones seem to be another common landmark in this desert, I wonder if that means...

AAAAAAHOOW!!! ONE OF THEM BIT ME OW ITS NOT LETTING GO GAH ITS IN MY SHIN

Damnit,I can’t let her bleed all over the desert. Hold still the Med Drone will fix it…
