Farquid: We’re practically at the top of the mountain and I still don’t- wait, there’s something in the storm. Come on, I see a path over to it.
(a large creature floats in the storm as lighting arcs off it)
Farquid: That’s definitely a new species, better log it before it goes away
(a lightning bolt hits the creature)
(the creature begins emitting an empty tune)
Farquid: Hm? There’s the music I heard, sounds incomplete though. Must be a mating call, another will probably join in at some point
(the creature continues to sing alone)
Farquid: …
(the song is still empty)
Farquid: Where are the others? This area isn’t that big, there has to be more
(the storm is empty)
Farquid: no, No I’m not letting this thing go extinct. Just need a DNA sample and I can come back with enough to repopulate the area
Droid: We have to leave this planet as untouched as possible, that would be going against ILO’s biggest rule
Farquid: Oh and what you’ve been doing hasn’t!?
Droid: Farquid death is part of nature bringing a species back to life isn’t, you have to let this one go away
Farquid: So death is a part of our nature but life isn’t? That seems to check out. All we do is decide who makes it, doesn’t matter how long they’ve been around for, how hard they’ve worked, or if they can even help it or not, we’re the force that decides if they make it or not. Just one big machine that stamps out imperfections. Well who knows how long until I’m the one operating that machine so why don’t we just kill this thing now!
Droid: You’re not the reason it’s going extinct Farquid. You know that. And you’re not the reason everything else dies either, it's part of life.
Farquid: But I’m not part of life, my species hasn’t been part of it for thousands of years.
Droid: Yes, so instead of holding onto the things that go away, let them go. And be happy that they happened. You’ll outlive entire star systems so be happy that things happened, stop being sad that they're gone or will be gone and enjoy the fact that they were there. You might be above life, but you can still understand its meaning.
Farquid: Thanks
Droid: Now why don’t you finish that log
Farquid: No. I don’t want its last moments to be me monologuing.
